Unlike the huge tourist areas, in Otsuka you can feel the localness within Tokyo. Meanwhile, Asian people and middle Easterners are highly populated and there is also a mosque, it’s one of the multicultural and peaceful places around.
■Tenso Shrine
This Shrine watching over this land for about 700 years ago, and the two ginkgo trees standing are a husband and wife rooted here for about 700 years. Even though the surrounding area has been burned in World War II, this couple tree have survived the crisis to this day. They are the real rooted begins. Please stand between them, and feel the roots underground. The one near the entrance is female and one in the back is the male tree.
■Tokyo Somei "SAKURA Onsen"
Located in 10 minutes walk from Sugamo station (one stop next to Otsuka station). Natural spring hot water. It will be very crowded at the weekend and holidays so it’s recommended for weekdays. Onsen and sauna are available and there’s a restaurant as well. People with tattoo marks are forbidden. Price 1,760yen. Rent a towel set is +385yen. Please check the opening date and hours. For taxi it will be around 1,000yen from SUNPIKA.

■"Masutsune" Liquor Store
Many kinds of Japanese "Sake". They have a lot of choice that you want and has a lot of knowledge. How about choosing the sweetest Sake as a souvenir? Their English is not very good, but try to explain by using easy English and some translations, they are kind people. It will be only cash.
■IKE・SUNPARK
A large city park for locals to relax. There are some small cafe and one restaurant. And a small bus stop goes to Ikebukuro. Park opens from 5AM–10PM.
From the park to the end of Sunshine60 shopping mall is about 5minutes, through the Sunshine bus roundabout you can walk through to shopping mall, continues until the end of the Ikebukuro area. There is a big store of "MUJI" at the beginning of this side, and it's always not so crowded on weekdays.
■Sugamo Jizo-street / 巣鴨地蔵通り
Temple walking street. At 4th, 14th, 24th of the month which has 4th in the date, there are a flea market, various antiques and daily necessities are on sale. It is one of the most retro shopping street in Tokyo.
Take the Tram to "Koshinzuka Station", two stations away from " Otsuka tram station", and take a walk along “Jizo-dori” straight toward "JR Sugamo station". A walking route that returns from "Sugamo Station" to "Otsuka Station", one stop on the JR Yamanote Line.
